My first full-time writing job out of college was as a copywriter in the advertising department at Appleton & Lange, the medical division of Simon & Schuster. I wrote back cover copy and press releases for many types of books for various specialties. I worked to support sales reps with POS in bookstores plus often attended trade shows all over the country. One of the best selling and most noted in the field was "Williams Obstetrics," known as the leading text in obstetrics for over 100 years. I worked closely on this title, writing the press release and working on direct mail.

I also worked on medical test preparation guides, medical textbooks, massage therapy, nursing, physical therapy: just about everything in medicine including textbooks for mortuary science students! Portions of the division including Williams Obstetrics were sold to McGraw Hill in the late 90's.
